What is RAD?

RAD stands for "Rapid Access Defense." The RAD weapons storage system from Caron Forensics is the newest and most innovative product on the market specifically designed for the storage and fast presentation of defensive weapons. It is designed to give you peace of mind at all times and to protect you, your family and your home.

RAD systems store weapons by means of a rail system and special accessories (patent pending), allowing you to mount a wide variety of rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammunition, knives and other weapons in stealthy yet efficiently positioned locations, there for you when you need them.

Who needs a RAD System?

With the recent trend toward gun ownership for home protection and increase in the number of concealed carry weapon permits, there becomes a need for a safe, quickly accessed weapons storage system. Because RAD comes in two sizes, 2 foot, RAD2, and 4 foot, RAD4, it allows for the secure storage of handguns, shotguns, rifles and other tactical items.  RAD is designed to mount in a concealed location, such as a bedroom closet, horizontally over or vertically beside the doorway. The area above the door on the inside of a walk-in closet is almost always unused and wasted space, but ironically is often the very best place to locate your RAD system. 

For new gun owners unprepared for the responsibility of securely storing guns, RAD is a fast and easy way to ready your home or office for self defense, while securing weapons from children and others. For veteran gun owners, the RAD enables them to protect and position their valuable defense weapons in ways that are not possible in either safes or small pistol boxes. For most of us, it's the fastest way to get our hands on not just our shotgun and handgun, but the knife, flashlight and pepper spray that also go with us in any emergency. Anyone who is concerned with storing their weapons safely out of reach of both loved ones and potential home intruders will appreciate the solid construction and security of the RAD system.

What is the difference between RAD and a gun safe?

Aside from RAD, the only gun storage cabinets on the market today are often large, heavy safes. These safes take up a considerable amount of space as they are tall metal boxes that stand on the floor with one or fewer shelves in which rifles or shotguns rest on their stocks. In addition to the inconvenience of the weight and size, safes are expensive, difficult to access and are easy to identify as containing valuables by home invaders. Many low-end safes are easily penetrated just as quickly as metal gun cabinets, and therefore offer less of a security advantage than you might have thought.

Inexpensive imported metal cabinets are available, but are essentially just a plain metal box, with no system for organizing your weapons so you will know where they are positioned when you need them, likely in the darkness of night. Gun boxes often resemble lockers - conspicuous, obvious to intruders, not attractive outside of the basement and they take up floor space. In most cases, they offer less security than RAD, because they are not easily attached to walls or other surfaces and therefore are often not secured by their owners.

The typical gun storage cabinet is not optimized for the rapid presentation and deployment of weapons to respond to an emergency situation. Most storage cabinets are designed for and only function to store weapons. They are typically rated and advertised in terms of the number of rifles they can hold. Boxes designed for handguns are often too small and not configured to hold other common defense items, such as pepper spray, knives and flashlights.

Wall mounted gun storage cabinets often require cutting a hole in the wall and those capable of holding rifles or shotguns must be mounted vertically. The RAD design is the result for the need of an improved, safe and practical weapons storage method that addresses all of these needs.
